Eyjafjallajokull

No its not a type of food or some new progressive/house/metal/rockabilly orgy. Its the name of that volcano that has brought the air-freight and international travel industry to it knees. In a tribute to the awesome beauty of mother nature I've decided to enlighten you about the Icelandic volcano so aptly named Eyjafjallajokull.

The volcano is situated in the southern portion of Iceland on one of Iceland's relatively smaller glaciers. The volcano has erupted with quite frequency since the end of the last glacial period, most recently from 1821 - 1823 and of course now. This is the second major eruption of the volcano this year, the first of which occurred in March of 2010 and the second in April. The April eruption was of a large magnitude and has received tons of press due to the international impact it has had. The most recent eruption was preceeded by nearly 3,000 earthquakes until the beast decided to open up on the 14th of April and spew lava and a subsequent column of ash nearly 3km into the atmosphere. Air travel disruptions began on the 15th of April in Northwest Europe and continue to have implications as far reaching as Asia.

If none of that was interesting to you then scope the pics and the heat up the dance floor with this ice melting beat. Because even though it may be toO cold to venture outside during most of the winter they still know how to party.
